Dr. Sonal Desai received her undergraduate degree from Emory University and attended Meharry Dental School for her Doctorate training. As a member of the American Dental Association and the Texas Dental Association, Dr. Desai is passionate about dentistry and committed to ongoing growth and education.

When you visit NRH Dentistry, you may see Dr. Desai's therapy dog, Oscar, greeting patients before or after their dental visit. A certified therapy dog, he is hypoallergenic and great with both children and adults. In his spare time, Oscar enjoys long walks and eating treats.

Dr. Desai is passionate about dentistry and is committed to ongoing growth and education. She is a member of the American Dental Association and the Texas Dental Association. She regularly participates in continuing education courses so that her patients can benefit from the latest developments in dentistry. She particularly enjoys courses that allow her to learn more about sedation dentistry, Invisalign® clear aligner therapy, and cosmetic dentistry.

Comprehensive Evaluation / Oral Examination

An oral examination is a visual inspection of the mouth, head, and neck, performed to detect abnormalities. Low radiation digital imaging allows for a more complete examination, helping the doctor to detect cavities, problems in existing dental restorations, gum and bone recession or other abnormal conditions within the mouth, head and neck area.

Dental Cleaning

A dental cleaning, also known as an oral prophylaxis, is the removal of dental plaque and tartar (calculus) from the teeth. Specialized instruments are used to gently remove these deposits without harming the teeth. First, an ultrasonic device that emits vibrations and is cooled by water is used to loosen larger pieces of tartar.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are made of a safe resin material which is applied to the surfaces of teeth (commonly permanent molars) to prevent cavities. The sealant material fills in the crevices of a tooth and “seals” off the tooth from cavity-causing agents like food and plaque.The teeth are prepared for the sealant application and the sealant is painted directly onto the chewing surface of each tooth and then hardens.

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is a natural substance that helps strengthen teeth and prevent decay. Fluoride treatments are administered at this office as an important component of pediatric dental treatment. The fluoride is applied to the teeth in a gel, foam, or varnish form.

Custom Oral Appliances

Our office can fabricate custom oral appliances that can protect your teeth and gums during sports, alleviate sleep apnea symptoms to provide an open airway while you sleep, or relieve stress on the temporomandibular joint caused by clenching or grinding of the teeth.

Scaling and Root Planing

Scaling and root planing is a nonsurgical procedure used to treat gum disease. During the scaling process, specialized dental instruments are used to remove dental plaque and calculus from beneath the gums. Planing is the procedure used to smooth the tooth roots after the scaling process. Root planing helps the gums heal and reattach themselves to a cleaner and smoother root surface.

Root Canal Treatment

Root canals are most often necessary when decay has reached the nerve of the tooth or the tooth has become infected. When root canal therapy is performed, infected or inflamed pulp is removed from the tooth chamber. The inside of the tooth is then cleaned and disinfected before being filled and sealed to limit the possibility of future infection.

Extractions

A tooth that can not be saved with restorative procedures may need to be removed. Before removal of the tooth, the area will be numbed with anesthesia. The tooth is loosened from the jawbone and surrounding ligaments and tissues with a gentle rocking motion. Once it is loose, it is gently removed. Stitches may be necessary after the removal of a tooth.

Dr. Sekhon

Dr. Sekhon graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2016 and has been practicing General Dentistry for the past nine years. She earned her Bachelor of Dental Surgery in India before moving to the United States in 2012 to pursue her dream of learning and practicing state-of-the-art dentistry. She also holds a Master’s in Public Health with a focus on Health Policy and Management from Texas A&M University.
Dr. Sekhon takes a comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment planning. She is passionate about all aspects of general dentistry, with a strong emphasis on building long-term relationships with her patients. She has advanced training in placing and restoring dental implants and is certified in clear aligner therapy through Invisalign, helping patients achieve healthy, confident smiles with minimally invasive solutions. Dedicated to staying current with the latest advancements, she is particularly focused on the medical implications of dental care and strives to provide safe, evidence-based treatment.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Sekhon enjoys traveling and finds balance through her love for pilates. She lives in Argyle with her husband, daughter, and their adorable golden doodle. She also treasures spending quality time with friends and family.
